3.5 Million People Participated in Five Weeks: Great Interest in the 'Learn Your Ideal Weight, Live Healthy' Campaign
In the first five weeks of the "Learn Your Ideal Weight, Live Healthy" campaign launched by the Ministry of Health, 3 million 572 thousand people were measured for height and weight. 35 percent of the participants were overweight and 28 percent were obese. The rate of overweight was higher in men and the rate of obesity was higher in women.
Measurements were made to 3.5 million people
In the first five weeks of the "Learn Your Ideal Weight, Live Healthy" campaign carried out by the Ministry of Health between May 10 and June 13, 2025, a total of 3,572,436 people had their height and weight measured. 47.1 percent of the participants were male and 52.9 percent were female.
According to the measurement results, the body mass index (BMI) of approximately 2 million 221 thousand people was above normal limits. In the general distribution, 5 percent of the participants were underweight, 32 percent were of normal weight, 35 percent were overweight and 28 percent were obese.
Record attendance in fifth week
In the fifth week of the campaign, which covered June 7-13, 930,941 people had their height and weight measured. Of these people, 441,269 were recorded as male and 489,672 as female. This week, 5.9 percent of the people measured were determined to be underweight, 33.2 percent as normal weight, 35.1 percent as overweight and 25.8 percent as obese.
Referral to nutritional counseling
In the fifth week, 567,319 people whose BMI was above normal were directed to primary health care institutions for free nutrition and physical activity counseling. 300,534 of this group were women and 266,785 were men.
Obesity in women and overweight in men are prominent
According to the five-week general data, the overweight rate was determined as 40.5 percent in men and 30.6 percent in women. The obesity rate was 31 percent in women and 22.3 percent in men.
The target for public health is 10 million people
The campaign, which was launched to prevent the problem of overweight and obesity, which has become widespread in Türkiye as well as around the world, aims to support healthy living habits of individuals. It is planned to measure the height and weight of 10 million people in 81 provinces within the scope of the campaign, which will last until July 10, 2025.
