CHP's Gülcan Kış: 'Mersin is not a city that will be remembered only from election to election'
CHP Mersin Deputy Gülcan Kış, in her speech at the TBMM General Assembly, stated that Mersin did not receive a sufficient share from public investments and listed the unfinished projects and neglected areas one by one. Addressing the government, Kış called out, "You should make the investment that Mersin deserves."
CHP Mersin Deputy Gülcan Kış took the floor at the Turkish Grand National Assembly General Assembly and brought up Mersin’s ongoing investment problems and unfinished projects. Kış stated that Mersin provides significant added value to the country with its port, industry, agriculture and tourism, but despite this contribution, it is not receiving its fair share from public investments.
'Investment in Mersin is being sacrificed to political preference'
Kış stated that although Mersin is the 6th province that pays the most taxes, its share from public investments remains below 1 percent. Kış said, "This is not only a numerical imbalance, but also the result of a political choice," and emphasized that this injustice must be remedied.
'The formulas discussed at the summit cannot replace the facts'
Addressing the 2025 Economic Summit held in Mersin last week, Kış criticized the 5T formula presented at the summit: 'The 5T formula presented by the Minister of Trade has been talked about for years, but no concrete steps have been taken in any sector.'
'The airport completed in 14 years is not enough'
Gülcan Kış, reminding that Çukurova Airport could only be completed in 14 years, said that she found this project valuable but Mersin needed it too much to be squeezed in. Kış, who also reacted to the transfer of the main container port to another province, called on the government by saying, "Why are you moving the project, whose EIA process has been completed for Mersin, to another province?"
'Mersin's roads, dam and junction have been waiting for years'
Stating that the Çeşmeli-Taşucu Highway has not been completed for years and has turned into a traffic jam that lasts for hours in the summer months, Kış drew attention to the fact that the Akbelen Multi-Storey Intersection has not been built yet despite being put out to tender in 2017. He stated that the Pamukluk Dam has not been completed for 14 years and that the delay in this investment, which will reduce drinking water prices by 30 percent, is detrimental to the citizens.
'There is also neglect in the areas of agriculture, tourism and the environment'
Stating that farmers were victimized after the agricultural frost disaster in Mersin, that no disaster declaration or debt postponement was made, Kış said that TARSİM payments were not accelerated. Stating that the same indifference continued in tourism, Kış noted that regions such as Silifke, Anamur and Tarsus were still waiting for investment. He stated that the fish farm and marina projects in Aydıncık were imposed despite the objections of the public.
'Mersin stands tall with populist municipality'
At the end of his speech, Kış emphasized the services of CHP municipalities and said, 'Mersin stands on its feet with the understanding of populist municipality. This city expects investment, equality and justice.'
