Tensions Escalate After Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe Derby: Mourinho and Buruk Penalized by TFF
Following the 0-0 draw between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe in the 25th week of the Trendyol Süper Lig, statements from coaches José Mourinho and Okan Buruk led to disciplinary action by TFF. Mourinho received a 4-match ban for his controversial remarks, while Buruk was handed a 1-match suspension. Fenerbahçe has initiated legal consultations regarding Mourinho’s punishment.

Mourinho’s Post-Derby Remarks Sparked Controversy
After the match, Fenerbahçe’s head coach José Mourinho made several comments about the referee's performance. Mourinho stated:
"If the referee had been Turkish, Yusuf would have received a card at the very beginning, and I would have had to substitute him. The referee had a great performance, really top-level. I have to thank him because, in the incident I’m talking about, everyone on the other bench was jumping around like monkeys."
Mourinho’s remarks immediately triggered widespread criticism, including strong reactions from the Galatasaray camp. His comments were swiftly picked up by the European press, and the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) responded by suspending Mourinho for 4 matches.
Buruk’s Response to Mourinho
Galatasaray’s head coach Okan Buruk fired back at Mourinho during his own press appearance. Buruk said:
"The Crying One’s speech dragged on a bit too long. As you know, he’s famous for his crying. He cried and cried. He cried inside the dressing room, then cried again in the referee’s room. Let him keep crying."
TFF Hands Out Suspensions
Following this war of words, the Turkish Football Federation imposed a 4-match ban on Mourinho and a 1-match ban on Buruk.
Fenerbahçe Considers Legal Action
Fenerbahçe’s management has started exploring legal options to challenge Mourinho’s suspension. The club’s official statement and potential appeals to European football authorities will become clearer in the coming days.
