US imports reach $3.36 trillion in 2024 — Mexico, China, and Canada top the list

According to data from the International Trade Centre, Mexico emerged as the United States’ largest import source in 2024. Imports from Mexico reached $510 billion, followed by $462.7 billion from China and $422.2 billion from Canada.

Mexico becomes the top trade partner
The leading products imported from Mexico included motor vehicles and auto parts. Machinery and electrical equipment also ranked among the most traded goods between the two countries.

Fluctuations in imports from China
China, a major rival in global trade, remained one of the largest suppliers to the US market. In 2024, electrical machinery and equipment topped the list of Chinese imports, accounting for $127.1 billion. Motor vehicles, toys, and sporting goods were also key products. However, some product categories experienced declines, including a $1.3 billion drop in toys and sporting goods.

Strong import flow from Canada
Despite ongoing tariff threats dating back to the Trump administration, imports from Canada remained robust. The US imported $131 billion worth of mineral fuels from Canada, alongside significant volumes of motor vehicles and machinery.

Trade relations remain sensitive
The balance of trade between the US and its top three import partners — Mexico, China, and Canada — continues to be influenced by tariffs, global economic shifts, and evolving supply chain dynamics.
