DEVA Party Deputy Chairman Mehmet Emin Ekmen: “Göksu Delta is turned into agricultural land every year under the pretext of fire.”
DEVA Party Deputy Chairman and Mersin Deputy Mehmet Emin Ekmen drew attention to the fires and ecosystem destruction in the Göksu Delta during the discussions of the proposal including the National Parks Law at the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
DEVA Partisi Genel Başkan Yardımcısı ve Mersin Milletvekili Mehmet Emin Ekmen, Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi Genel Kurulu’nda Millî Parklar Kanunu’nu da kapsayan teklifin görüşmeleri sırasında söz alarak Fires and environmental destruction in Göksu Delta hakkında değerlendirmelerde bulundu.
“Göksu Delta is being transformed into an agricultural area step by step”
In his speech at the General Assembly, Ekmen expressed his concerns about the protection of national parks and natural assets and said, "I would like to draw attention to one of the most valuable areas of our national parks and natural assets. I have expressed this many times in the General Assembly; unfortunately, the Göksu Delta is being turned into agricultural areas step by step under the excuse of fires that break out every year."
Göksu Deltası’nın A bird sanctuary that should be protected under the Ramsar Convention olduğunu hatırlatan Ekmen, “Bu alan yeterli korumadan yoksun bırakılıyor; binlerce kuş ve balık yaşamını yitiriyor, sazlık alanlar yok edilerek tarıma açılıyor ve tüm bu tahribatla etkin bir mücadele yürütülemiyor.” ifadelerini kullandı.
“We remember this region not with its birds, but with its fires”
Emphasizing that Göksu Delta is located on the world's most important bird migration routes, Ekmen reminded that there was a serious fire in the region in April last year.
Ekmen stated that he had brought the issue to the agenda before and said, "I once again call on the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, and the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, to effectively protect this value and prevent possible fires."
