İzmir Metropolitan Municipality made a statement about the delays in urban transformation projects

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality felt the necessity of informing some public statements about the urban transformation projects that have been on the agenda in recent days.

Determination of Project Areas and Processes

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality started urban transformation processes in August 2012 in Gaziemir Aktepe Emrez, Karabağlar Uzundere in September 2012 and Karşıyaka Örnekköy regions in October 2012 and declared these areas as regional urban transformation area.

The municipality, who took over the task in April 2024, completed some stages of Uzundere and Örnekköy projects through contractors and aimed to realize the construction of other stages with cooperatives through İzbeton.

As of April 2024, the determinations showed that there are significant problems in the construction of some stages of the projects.

Status of Legal Processes and Cooperatives

Following the determinations of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Environmental Urbanization and Climate Change, various administrative and legal problems related to the construction of cooperatives arose.

In December 2024, the municipality tendered the 3rd and 4th stage projects and the constructions were restarted.
