Mandatory cameras and emergency buttons in taxis from March 1, 2025

A new regulation requiring enhanced safety measures in commercial taxis will come into force in Turkey on March 1, 2025. The directive, issued by the Interior Ministry and published in the Official Gazette on November 29, 2024, mandates the installation of cameras and emergency buttons in all taxis.

Cameras and emergency buttons become mandatory
According to the regulation, all taxis must be equipped with both interior and exterior cameras, as well as an emergency button. These systems will be used to protect the safety of both passengers and drivers.

Non-compliant taxis will not be allowed on the road
Taxis failing to meet the specified safety standards will not pass vehicle inspections and will not be permitted to operate. This measure aims to ensure that only properly equipped taxis are allowed to serve passengers.

Regulation designed to improve safety
The new rule was introduced in response to rising safety concerns and attacks targeting taxi drivers in recent years. Both taxi owners and drivers must ensure their vehicles comply with the new system by March 1, 2025.
