CHP leader Özgür Özel made important statements regarding the political agenda.
Özel, who answered questions on the program hosted by Fatih Altaylı, stated that politics in Türkiye is being designed with judicial pressure. Özel, who claimed that the investigations opened against Ekrem İmamoğlu are part of a big conspiracy, said, "I have never seen such a blatant political operation in my 44 years of journalism."
'İmamoğlu is Forbidden to Withdraw His Candidacy'
Speaking about İmamoğlu's candidacy for president, Özel said, "Ekrem İmamoğlu no longer has the right to say 'I am not a candidate'. This would not only hurt himself but also the people's hopes." Özel emphasized that 15.5 million people support İmamoğlu and that this responsibility is heavy.
Trustee Claims and Early Elections
Özel, who also evaluated the claims that a trustee would be appointed to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, stated that such an initiative would deeply shake Turkish politics and economy. Özel, who reiterated his call for early elections, said, "An election to be held after November 2025 would make things even worse for Türkiye. Elections should be held in November 2025, or even earlier."
'Sarachane Resistance Cracks the Wall of Fear'
Özel stated that the large crowd that gathered in Saraçhane after İmamoğlu was detained had overcome the wall of fear under the leadership of the youth and that the opposition had regained its strength. Özel said, "The people of Istanbul have defended democracy. This resistance will spread to Anatolia in waves," and announced that the rallies will continue and that they will meet in new cities every week.
Media and Boycott Debates
Özel also reacted to the pressures on the media and biased broadcasts. "We boycotted the channels that did not show the square. The public is no longer forgetting those who censor the news," he said, emphasizing media freedom. Özel also stated that the boycott calls received a strong response from the youth.
