AK Party MP Faruk Kılıç: 'Bread Production and Sales Are Under Strict Supervision'

Strict Control Over Bread Production and Sales
During a speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Faruk Kılıç, AK Party Mardin MP, highlighted the importance of strict supervision over bread production and sales. He explained that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s Food and Control General Directorate conducts continuous inspections nationwide. In 2024, 1,329,758 official inspections were completed, and by 2025, 151,985 inspections have already been carried out. Kılıç assured the public that the inspection process is ongoing and aims to maintain high-quality bread production across the country.

Fighting Unlicensed Bakeries
Kılıç also addressed the issue of unlicensed bakeries, explaining that before 2005, there were no regulations requiring licenses for bakeries. This led to the emergence of poorly maintained and unhygienic bakeries that also caused damage to buildings. With the new regulations, this issue has been largely resolved. The AK Party MP emphasized that the fight against unlicensed bakeries continues, aiming to ensure safety and cleanliness in the industry.

Fluctuating Bread Costs and No Losses for Producers
Regarding bread prices, Kılıç stated that various factors contribute to the fluctuations in the cost of bread, such as the type of bakery, its capacity, the number of employees, rent prices, and daily production volumes. He explained that it is not possible to set a uniform price for bread across the country due to these variables. He added that the cost of 50 kg of bread flour varies between 750 and 850 TL depending on the region, and a loaf of bread in Ankara and Istanbul is sold for 12.5 TL. Kılıç concluded by saying that under these conditions, producers are not at risk of incurring losses.

Demands for Price Increases from Tradesmen and Craftsmen Associations
Kılıç also mentioned the recent increase in demands for higher bread prices. The Tradesmen and Craftsmen Associations have been requesting price adjustments due to the rise in input costs. However, Kılıç clarified that while the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry provides its views on the matter, the associations that set the tariffs do not necessarily take the ministry's opinion into account when determining the final price. He stated that tariff adjustments are solely the responsibility of these associations.

Ongoing Efforts to Resolve Sector Issues
Faruk Kılıç assured that the AK Party closely monitors the challenges faced by bread producers. He emphasized that the party regularly meets with industry representatives and continues its efforts to solve these ongoing problems, working to support the sector and ensure a stable bread supply for the public.
