CHP Ankara Deputy Aliye Timisi Ersever: 'İpek Elif Atayman was laid on the ground and carried in handcuffs'

 
İpek Elif Atayman's detention brought to the agenda of the Parliament
CHP Ankara Deputy Aliye Timisi Ersever brought up the treatment that the detained İpek Elif Atayman was subjected to in her off-agenda speech at the TBMM General Assembly on June 12, 2025. Ersever claimed that Atayman was tried unlawfully and faced treatments that were against human dignity in prison conditions.
 
 
'He was carried for seven and a half hours in handcuffs and made to lie on the ground'
MP Ersever stated that Atayman was deported from Silivri Prison to Afyon without informing his family and lawyer, that he was carried in handcuffs for seven and a half hours and made to lie on the ground. Ersever described this process as 'ignoring the law' and said that what happened damaged trust in Türkiye's justice system.
 
'A woman, a mother, a manager but above all a human being'
Drawing attention to Atayman’s social roles in his speech, Ersever left the events to the conscience with the words, “İpek Elif Atayman is a woman, a mother, a manager, but above all, a human being.” Echoing Atayman’s child’s question, “Do you have the right to do this?” from the parliamentary rostrum, Ersever addressed the Minister of Justice and called for an end to these practices.
 
Condolences also to the Mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality
Ersever began his speech by commemorating the deceased Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek. He expressed his deep sorrow over Zeyrek's untimely passing and offered his condolences.
