CHP Ömer Fethi Gürer: “Meat prices increased by 25 percent in 9 months, Meat and Milk Authority meat exceeded 1000 TL in private markets”

CHP Niğde Deputy and Parliamentary Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Commission Member Ömer Fethi Gürer, drew attention to the increase in red meat prices.

Meat and Milk Authority Meats More than 1000 TL in Markets
Gürer announced that the weight of imported angus tenderloin from Meat and Milk Institution in a private market in Ankara was sold for 1200 TL.

"Livestock has become dependent on imports"
Gürer emphasized that costs in the livestock sector increased and producers are not supported: “Fatigue feed, veterinarians, diesel and other expenses cannot cope with other expenses. Import is not a solution. Importing domestic animal husbandry and feed subsidies are essential. Otherwise prices will continue to rise.”

Butchers: "Our sales fell by 75 percent"
Cemal Çopur, who made a butcher in Bor district of Niğde, said that sales decreased by 75 percent compared to last year.

"Meat was luxurious for narrow income"
Gürer stated that despite the fact that meat is basic food, it has become luxury consumption: “Meat and milk institution meats are sold in the range of TL 1000-1500 in the markets. Retired and fixed-income citizens remove meat from the table. Children cannot take protein. Agriculture and animal husbandry policies should protect the domestic producer.”
