Clear message from Ersin Tatar to Southern Cyprus: 'Efforts to force them to their knees will never yield results'

The conference was held under the auspices of the TRNC Presidency
TRNC President Ersin Tatar gave a speech at the opening of the conference titled 'Developments in the Turkish and World Economy and Future Vision'. Tatar started his opening speech by thanking the Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkey, Mehmet Şimşek, and stated that he had the opportunity to work closely with Şimşek in the past and learned a lot from him.

'Disciplined state administration is not easy'
Tatar, who touched upon the difficulties of financial management in his speech, emphasized the importance of reform, precaution and knowing how to say ‘no’ when necessary. Stating that it is not as easy as it seems to discipline the state administration, Tatar said that the potential of the TRNC can be increased through tourism, higher education, the service sector, industry, construction and digital transformation.

'Prosperous tomorrows are possible with digital transformation'
Drawing attention to the importance of digital and green transformation projects, Tatar stated that investments in the communication infrastructure could turn the TRNC into an information island. Stating that developments in Türkiye were being followed with satisfaction, Tatar referred to the post-earthquake management capability and the goals of the Turkish Century.

'Attacks by the Greek Cypriot side are disrupting stability'
Tatar, who said that the recent threats and arrest attempts of investors by Southern Cyprus targeted the stability in the TRNC, emphasized that these attempts damaged the hopes for a two-state solution. Tatar, who stated that he expressed that this attitude should be abandoned in his meetings with the Greek leader, noted that the new policy pursued with the support of Türkiye was the right path.

'Energy and natural resources are opportunities for a common future'
Stating that while cooperation could have been possible on issues such as energy, water and natural gas, the aggressive attitudes of the Greek side were sabotaging the process, Tatar said that he rejected the offer of a trilateral meeting for this reason. He said that this decision was a diplomatic stance and was clearly conveyed to the UN representative.

'There will be no concessions'
Tatar stated that the TRNC's goal is to sign joint projects with the cooperation of the two states, and said that despite all the attacks by the Greek side, the efforts to make them kneel will never yield results. He added that the proposals of Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek regarding the TRNC economy present a great opportunity.
