Hidden works and the restoration process
The exhibition includes 40 manuscripts and printed works that were found inside the wall of an adobe house that was demolished in the Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş in 2020 and stored for nearly 100 years. The works belong to Mehmet İmamoğlu, who won the Independence Medal. The books include logic, fiqh, biography, sura interpretations, worship guides, religious stories, tajweed, grammar books containing Arabic grammar, and a soldier's notebook.
Social media post from Emine Erdoğan
Sharing on her social media account after the exhibition opening, Emine Erdoğan stated the following:
'In 2020, 40 manuscripts were found hidden inside the wall of a demolished house in Afşin... The precious books that were entrusted to the soil and walls a century ago were revived with the "Hidden Remainings" exhibition prepared by the Asitane Foundation. The legacy of Mehmet İmamoğlu, the recipient of the Medal of Independence, will happily shed light on our future generations with the sensitivity of his grandchildren and the initiative of the authorities. In addition, it is also gratifying that the 40th manuscript book was restored with the papers produced locally and nationally by the Foundation and brought to the present day. I wholeheartedly congratulate those who contributed to the exhibition, which tells not only about the books, but also about the will that protects them, the memory that does not forget and the loyalty felt to the past.'
