Musavat Dervişoğlu: 'Türkiye may become the next target; we should not remain silent'

Israel-Iran tension and its impact on Türkiye

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu answered the questions of Taha Akyol and Elif Çakır on Karar TV. Stating that the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel carries the risk of turning into a regional war, Dervişoğlu emphasized that it is dangerous for Türkiye to remain silent against the developments.

Dervişoğlu argued that Israel's attacks on Iran were an expected development and that these attacks were the result of increasing Israeli influence in Syria. He stated that Türkiye had reacted late to these developments and said, "Türkiye needs to take more active and constructive diplomatic steps in the face of these developments that are happening right under its nose."

'Türkiye could be targeted' warning

Dervişoğlu stated that Türkiye’s geopolitical position is risky, and said, “We are a tent set up on the hyenas’ passageway.” Drawing attention to the possibility of regional wars spilling over into Türkiye, Dervişoğlu said, “If we do not develop the right policies, Türkiye could become the next target.”

'Political status is being imposed on Abdullah Öcalan'

The program also brought up the discussions on the fight against terrorism and the resolution process. Dervişoğlu argued that an attempt was being made to give Abdullah Öcalan a political position. Dervişoğlu, who said, “You cannot take Türkiye to Öcalan,” criticized the DEM Party’s statements and said, “Terrorism should be fought, not negotiated.”

New constitution and presidential system

Speaking about the new constitution process, Dervişoğlu criticized the Presidential Government System. Claiming that the constitutional amendment was an attempt to pave the way for Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to run again, Dervişoğlu said, “This constitution has been changed 21 times. It may be worn out, but this constitutional amendment should not be made for Erdoğan’s personal benefit.”

Assessment of the economy: 'The crisis has been going on for 7 years'

Making evaluations regarding the economy, Dervişoğlu said, “Turkey has been in an economic crisis for 7 years.” Drawing attention to interest payments, Dervişoğlu said, “724 billion liras of interest were paid in the first four months of this year alone. Another Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant could be built with this amount,” pointing to structural problems in the economy and the lack of production-oriented development.

'Central politics is Türkiye's way out'

Dervişoğlu emphasized the importance of center politics in his evaluations regarding his party's political positioning. "We need to unite Türkiye. Center politics is the foundation of this unity," said Dervişoğlu, adding that the solution lies not in ideological polarization but in human-centered politics.
