The cold wave gripping Türkiye has brought heavy snowfall and severe weather conditions, particularly affecting education in central and eastern regions. As of today, February 13, schools in 15 provinces were officially closed due to the harsh winter weather.

Provinces where schools were closed today
On Thursday, February 13, several provinces declared snow holidays, suspending education for the day. Full-day closures were announced in Malatya, Kayseri, Sivas, Nevşehir, Karaman, Niğde, and Yozgat. In Tunceli, only the districts of Nazımiye, Mazgirt, and Pülümür saw school closures, while other districts suspended only transportation-based education.

In Adana, the districts of Aladağ and Feke were also affected, with schools closed due to heavy snowfall. Erzincan’s Kemaliye district also suspended education due to worsening weather. Meanwhile, in Kahramanmaraş, the districts of Çağlayancerit and Nurhak announced that schools would also remain closed on Friday.

What’s the situation in Konya, Kastamonu, and Ordu?
In Konya, 10 districts declared school closures due to heavy snowfall. All schools were shut down in Halkapınar, Karapınar, Hadim, and Ereğli, while other districts only suspended transportation-based education.

In Kastamonu, severe weather conditions prompted full closures in three districts, while other areas limited the suspension to transportation-based students.

Ordu’s provincial governor also announced a one-day closure for schools in Akkuş district due to heavy snow and icy roads.
