A Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Occurred Off the Coast of Istanbul
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Marmara Sea, off the coast of Büyükçekmece, Istanbul. According to AFAD data, the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 8.16 km, was also felt in surrounding districts.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) data, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred in the Marmara Sea at 23.36 on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The epicenter is off the coast of Büyükçekmece
The epicenter of the earthquake was determined to be approximately 23.63 kilometers away from the Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul, off the coast of the Sea of Marmara. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 8.16 kilometers.
It was also felt in surrounding districts
The tremor was felt in many parts of Istanbul, especially in the western districts. According to initial reports, there was no loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
A statement from experts is awaited
It was reported that evaluations on whether there would be an aftershock in the region following the earthquake were continuing and statements from experts were awaited.
