CHP Karabük Deputy Cevdet Akay: “Pensions are insufficient, resources are not used, Wealth Fund is uncontrolled”

CHP Karabük Deputy Cevdet Akay took the floor at the Turkish Grand National Assembly General Assembly on the bill proposal and made evaluations regarding the current salary regulation of retirees.

Unused Budget and Tax Expenditures
Pointing to the 713 billion TL unused appropriation in the 2025 budget, Akay said, "3,638 TL could have been given to each retiree, but it was not. 768 billion TL from the uncollected tax expenditures could have been transferred to the retirees; 47 thousand TL could have fallen to each retiree."

Priorities for Retirees and Young People
Akay said that with measures such as the adjustment law, progressive increase and minimum wage support, the income of 8 million retirees can be increased, 3 million unemployed young people or university students can be given scholarships at the minimum wage level, and practices such as resetting VAT on basic food products and abolishing health contributions can be implemented.

Wealth Fund and Audit Criticism
Drawing attention to the uncontrolled expenditures of the 360 billion dollar Wealth Fund, Akay said, "If it were not subject to the audit of the Court of Accounts, but were subject to the laws that public institutions are subject to, there would be no wasteful expenditures. There are 58 vehicle rental expenses, 41 of which are taken from private companies."

Interest and Minimum Wage Support
Referring to interest expenses and the minimum wage support provided to employers, Akay said, "We have 2 trillion 54 billion interest expenses. We should increase the minimum wage and cover this support from the Ministry budget, not from the Unemployment Insurance Fund."
