Diplomatic traffic between the US and Russia in Istanbul: The Embassy Crisis at the table

Türkiye continues to be a diplomatic center in international crises. Istanbul, which has hosted many important meetings before, was the scene of a critical diplomatic meeting between the United States and Russia this time.

High -level diplomats from the US and Russia came together at the US Consulate housing in Istanbul and evaluated the restart of the embassy activities. With the beginning of the Ukrainian War, the two countries had mutually suspended the embassy activities.

The first contact took place in Riyadh

The US and Russian delegations held their first talks on bilateral relations and the termination of the war in Ukraine in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia on 18 February. US President Donald Trump announced that he could have a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia in the near future.

Türkiye's diplomatic role stands out

Türkiye has made many diplomatic attempts to end the Russian-Ukraine War. The talks held in Antalya in March 2022 brought together Ukraine and Russian Foreign Ministers for the first time at the same table.

In addition, the cereal corridor agreement signed in Istanbul in July 2022 was ensured safely made through the Black Sea. Türkiye also played an active role in captive clearing between Russia and Ukraine, and in September 2022, 215 Ukrainian and 55 Russian prisoners were released.

Ankara emphasizes once again that it has continued its diplomatic efforts to end the Ukrainian War and is ready to bring the parties together on the negotiation table.
