On 31 July 2018 in the countryside of Yüksekova district of Hakkâri meydana gelen bombalı saldırıda hayatını kaybeden Nurcan Karakaya ve 10 aylık oğlu Bedirhan Mustafa KarakayaDeath is remembered on the anniversary.
Nurcan Karakaya, eşi Petty Officer Serkan Karakaya’yı görev yaptığı üs bölgesinde ziyaret ettikten sonra dönüş yolunda, trapped by members of the terrorist organization el yapımı patlayıcının infilak etmesi sonucu olay yerinde yaşamını yitirdi. 10 aylık Bedirhan ise ağır yaralı olarak kaldırıldığı hastanede hayatını kaybetti.
