President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: "Türkiye is going to a nightmare, the child's population fell below 5 million for the first time"

Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), announced in August 2025 in the population statistics, the child's population between the ages of 0-4 fell below 5 million for the first time in the history of the Republic.

Erdogan's warning

If our nation can not recover itself, it loses its ability to live in this land. This is a survival problem.”

The child population went below the historical level
According to TURKSTAT data, there were approximately 5 million 140 thousand children in the 0-4 age group in October 2024, while this number decreased by about 200 thousand in the last nine months.

Experts say that this decline in birth rates will affect Turkey's demographic structure in the long run, and that the increase of the elderly population can cause new problems in social security system, health care and labor planning.
