CHP Hatay Deputy Mehmet Güzelmansur: 'If the on-site transformation period is not extended, this means not giving grants to earthquake victims'
CHP Hatay Deputy Mehmet Güzelmansur harshly criticized the failure to extend the application period for on-site transformation, which was set to end on June 30, in his speech at the TBMM General Assembly. Güzelmansur said, “Despite 94 thousand applications in Hatay, only 7 thousand people were able to start construction. The remaining 87 thousand people are condemned to uncertainty,” and told the government, “You have no right to make these people suffer.”
Speaking at the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, CHP Hatay Deputy Mehmet Güzelmansur reminded that the period for the on-site transformation program launched after the February 6 earthquake would expire on June 30, and criticized the government for not extending the process. Güzelmansur stated that earthquake victims in Hatay in particular suffered serious grievances.
'Only 7 thousand people could start out of 94 thousand applications'
Güzelmansur emphasized that applications for on-site transformation in Hatay could not be met:
“There are nearly 94 thousand applications in Hatay alone. But so far only 7 thousand people have been able to start construction. The remaining 87 thousand citizens are still waiting.”
'Institutions are blocked, licenses are not issued'
Arguing that the bureaucracy did not work after the earthquake, the CHP deputy said, “Institutions are blocked, people are waiting in line to get a license. The time is running out but the procedures cannot be completed. You cannot condemn these people to uncertainty.”
'Living in containers cannot be the fate of Hataylı'
Mehmet Güzelmansur also brought up the living conditions in Hatay and said, “People are still living in 21 square meter containers in Hatay. You don’t even care about the earthquake victims. You can’t turn a blind eye to these people living in these conditions.”
'If the period is not extended, this means that the grant will not be given'
Güzelmansur, who stated that not extending the period was an ill-intentioned attitude, called on the government, saying, “If you do not extend this period, we will understand it as follows: 'The state does not want to give grants to earthquake victims.' Come out and explain the opposite.”
'These people do not deserve this'
Güzelmansur concluded his speech with the following words: “You have no right to make these people suffer. Is it that hard to say ‘We extended the period by one year’? The people of Hatay do not deserve this, do what is necessary,” he said.
