DEVA Party Ankara Deputy Lawyer İdris Şahin: "A person who steals a pen and a person who kills themselves cannot be put in the same category"
DEVA Party Ankara Deputy Atty.
DEVA Partisi Ankara Milletvekili Hunting. evaluated Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek's preparations regarding children dragged into crime and social media regulations, which were reflected in the public, from a legal perspective.
“It is easy to judge children as if they were adults.”
Emphasizing that protecting the future of children dragged into crime is the primary duty of the state, Şahin said, "It is easy to judge and punish children as if they were adults. The duty of the state is not to take revenge, but to reform. Children make mistakes; the state cannot turn that mistake into a permanent fate."
Stating that an uncompromising approach is needed in serious crimes, Şahin said, "There is no wholesale reduction in murder, sexual abuse and organized crimes. A child stealing a pen and taking a life cannot be evaluated the same. A separate balance must be established according to the severity of the crime."
“Social media regulation should not be a censorship stick”
Noting that regulations against disinformation and lynching culture on social media can be discussed, Şahin said that steps such as identity verification and age restrictions should not harm constitutional rights.
Şahin said, "If this step turns into a tool to silence opposition and suppress criticism, we will be against it. Identity verification should not harm constitutional rights."
"Let's discuss it transparently in the Parliament"
Drawing attention to the state's obligation to protect citizens, Şahin stated that the solution is common sense and a transparent legislative process.
