Gökhan Günaydın's Strong Response to AK Party: 'You've Been in Power for 25 Years, Look in the Mirror and Be Ashamed'

The intense discussions on urban transformation and Canal Istanbul at the TBMM General Assembly became even harsher with the speech of CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP ​​Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Günaydın. In response to the claim from the ranks of the AK Party that “urban transformation was prevented because of the CHP,” Günaydın pointed out the responsibility of the government from the past to the present.
 
 
'You have been in power for twenty-five years, what have you failed to do?'
Günaydın, who said, “You have done many things in this country that we did not want, but you could not do just one urban transformation?”, described the AK Party’s constant accusations against the opposition as “escaping from reality.” “We are not preventing urban transformation. Go ahead and do it,” he said.

Günaydın reminded that even former Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum said that 1.5 million houses in Istanbul needed to be transformed and that 30 percent of them were urgent, and asked, "You are the one saying this. This city has been under your administration for twenty-five years, why haven't you solved it yet?"

In response to the reactions from the ranks of the AKP, Günaydın rejected the accusations against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and spoke harshly, saying, “Instead of slandering our mayor who has been in office since 2019, look in the mirror. Don’t you have a little shame?”

While AK Party deputies Mehmet Baykan and Ahmet Kılıç made verbal interventions such as “Five years!” during Günaydın’s speech, the discussion was calmed down by the intervention of the Speaker of the Parliament.
