Republican People's Party Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu: "Drone threat is no longer an assumption, but a concrete risk area concerning national security."

Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi Millî Savunma Politikalarından Sorumlu Genel Başkan Yardımcısı Yankı Bağcıoğlu, yazılı açıklamasında unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV/drone) güvenlik doktrinlerini dönüştürdüğüne dikkat çekti. Bağcıoğlu, “Son yıllarda yaşanan bölgesel ve küresel çatışmalar, drone teknolojisinin yalnızca askerî değil, iç güvenlik ve toplumsal düzen açısından da ciddi bir risk alanı hâline geldiğini göstermiştir.” ifadelerini kullandı.

“Low Cost But High Effective Systems”
Bağcıoğlu stated that the Ukrainian war clearly demonstrated that high impact can be achieved with low-cost systems and said, "Drones can be used for a wide range of purposes, from reconnaissance and surveillance to creating economic disruption, from psychological pressure to direct acts of violence."

“It Goes Beyond Classic Public Order Violations”
Bağcıoğlu emphasized that the use of drones is no longer limited to classical public order violations, but has become a part of hybrid and asymmetric security risks.

“The Most Challenging Aspect of Drone-Related Risks is Uncertainty”
Bağcıoğlu stated that it is often not immediately possible to determine who owns a drone or for what purpose it is flown.

“Social Awareness is the Most Critical Element”
Bağcıoğlu stated that citizens noticing unusual drone activities and reporting them to law enforcement constitute the basic link of the early warning chain.

Increasing Risk for Critical Infrastructures
Bağcıoğlu emphasized that physical security alone is not sufficient in energy facilities, dams, ports, airports, communication infrastructures and industrial zones.

“The Drone Issue is Not a Technical Issue, It is a Social Responsibility Issue”
Bağcıoğlu stated that drone technology, when used correctly, offers opportunities in agriculture, industry and search and rescue;

Bağcıoğlu concluded his statement by saying, "The drone threat is no longer an assumption. It is in our country, it is increasing, and the fight against it will become more difficult day by day. Citizens' sensitivity to unusual drone activities can prevent unexpected security problems."
