Tufan Erhürman: 'The Rights of the Turkish Cypriot People Must Always Be Defended'

At the SözONda Experience Sharing Platform events organized by the Ankara City Council Diplomacy Assembly, former TRNC Prime Minister and Republican Turkish Party Chairman Tufan Erhürman shared his academic, legal and diplomatic experiences with the participants. The event took place at the Ankara City Council Exhibition Hall and was moderated by AKK High Advisory Board Secretary General Engin Öktem.
 
Ankara City Council President Halil İbrahim Yılmaz, Republican Turkish Party Deputy Fikri Toros, Ankara City Council High Advisory Board President Şevket Bülend Yahnici and many others attended the program. Participants also included civil society organizations such as the Cyprus Turkish Cultural Association, Maya Young Thought Platform, ANGİKAD and Söğütözü Law Association.
 
Tufan Erhürman gave important messages about the Cyprus issue in his speech. He emphasized that defending the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people is not only their own responsibility but the responsibility of the entire society. Erhürman stated that the two equal peoples of Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriots and the Greek Cypriots, should respect each other's rights.
 
“The word Cyprus is an unfortunate word that issues and problems have always been shaped around the theme of independence,” Erhürman said, adding that the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people should always be about equal rights and sovereignty. He also noted that negotiations have been stalled for the last four and a half years and that this process should be restarted as soon as possible.
 
In Erhürman's speech, it was emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people should constantly shout out their sovereignty and equality while defending their rights.
