3 new Turkish cultural heritage sites were declared protected by UNESCO
UNESCO has added three new intangible cultural heritage sites from Türkiye to its list. The traditional practices newly added to the list have attracted attention both nationally and internationally.
UNESCO Cultural Heritage List updated
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added three new items from Türkiye to the Intangible Cultural Heritage List for 2025. The items included in the list are the traditional "Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling Narratives and Rituals", "Istanbul Mevlevi Rituals" and "Anatolian Rug Weaving Techniques".
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism took an active role in the process
With the positive evaluation of the applications made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of heritage elements of Türkiye included in the list has increased to 27. The ministry's statement emphasized that these elements will increase international recognition.
Legacies will be passed on to future generations
Experts stated that such listings play a critical role not only in promotion but also in transferring them to future generations. Academics stated that especially young people should protect these legacies.
