CHP Deputy Hasan Öztürkmen: "We will be condemned to the product of the US farmers in the pistachio of pistachios"

With the decision published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the additional financial obligation implemented in some US products since 2018 has been abolished.

CHP Gaziantep Deputy Hasan Ozturkmen, reacting to the decision received, imports will remove the domestic farmer from production, he said.

‘We will be an importer in the product we are exporters’
Ozturkmen, in 2024 96 countries worth 229 million 777 thousand dollars worth of pistachio exports, reminding that the first 6 months of the year, 113 million 339 thousand dollars of exports stressed.

‘The US supports its own farmers’
Öztürkmen stated that the US supports its own manufacturer with subsidies and 676 thousand tons of pistachios were produced in 2023-24 season.

‘Prices may increase in the long term’
Öztürkmen argued that imports will not reduce prices and said, “If meat imports did not reduce prices, there will be a similar situation in the peanut. The food market market will be more expensive due to the increases in imports and global fluctuations.”

The CHP deputy also said that the tobacco manufacturer has been producing for a long time, and that there is a risk of withdrawing from production with tax exemption.
